Nature Wonders LOFOTEN Norway

NWG-DVD-168 - The Lofotes, the Vikings who built a base here in the ninth century, called these islands in the extreme north of Europe, The Islands Of The Gods. Reminiscent of the Alps, this group of islands just off the beautiful Norwegian coast, is located between one hundred and three hundred kilometres north of the Polar Circle. The origins of the primeval Lofotes date back to the beginning of the earth's history and are more than three and a half million years old. The Vestfjord played a vital part in the settlement of the islands. Since the third century BC the settlers here survived by farming the land and breeding animals, and fishing also played an important role. As the cod of the Polar Sea migrate each year in late winter to the Vestfjord to spawn, an increasing number of fishing families now live in this area.

Two thousand metres above sea level, Lake Wolayer is a gem. The tiny mountain lake lies snuggled between the peaks of the Seekopf and Seewarte Mountains. On the Ankogel one can take in the magnificent mountain scenery while travelling suspended in a cable car. A wonderful adventure with spectacular views!

Snapper Rocks Surfing, Brisbane Australia Andy, Kelly, Bruce, Fanning.. In land area, Australia is the sixth largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil. It has, however, a relatively small population. Australia is the only nation to govern an entire continent and its outlying islands. The mainland is the largest island and the smallest, flattest continent on Earth. It lies between 10° and 39° South latitude. The highest point on the mainland, Mount Kosciuszko, is only 2228 metres. Apart from Antarctica, Australia is the driest continent. Australia is the driest inhabited continent on earth. Its interior has one of the lowest rainfalls in the world and about three-quarters of the land is arid or semi-arid. Its fertile areas are well-watered, however, and these are used very effectively to help feed the world. Sheep and cattle graze in dry country, but care must be taken with the soil. Some grazing land became desert when the long cycles that influence rainfall in Australia turned to drought. The Australian federation consists of six States and two Territories. Nature Wonders INARI LAKE Finland

NWG-DVD-160 - Situated in the extreme north of Finland, Lake Inari, otherwise known as, Inarinjärvi, is a captivating place. Between June and October the lake is navigable by local water busses and during the rest of the year it is covered by ice. Measuring around fourteen hundred square kilometres the extensive Lake Inari is the third largest lake in Finland. Despite the remoteness of this region it is believed that the surroundings of Lake Inari were inhabited more than two thousand years ago by the Sàmi people. In the past the Sàmi populated vast areas of northern Europe but in recent centuries they were more and more repressed. Since then, and still inhabiting their original settlement areas, the Sámi have become a minority. However, Lake Inari has retained its cultural importance right up to the present day.
